Post World of Warcraft Reply with quote
A few months ago I've subscribed back to World of Warcraft after a five year loss of interest. The unfortunate part is that the month that I started again, March, coincides with my third quarter. Consequently, unlike five years ago I became frighteningly addicted to the game. With it's unnumbered possibilities of questing, looting, and PvPing (player vs. player) it is not wonder why I got so addicted. I was swallowed to that which I've easily escaped five years ago. Updates and patches which made the game better only equipped it with bigger artillery to pull me back in.

Recently, with outside trouble in the monsoon fueled by me I had to temporarily abandon the game (and me not having the other expansion (makes me real sad)). It's sad that I always go to http://www.wowarmory.com/ to check my guild mates and how their progressing and I'm out of the game. So far the only thing that keeps me entertained are studying for tests this week and calling the Filipino Embassy (because I cut a page of my passport for a very stupid reason).

World of warcraft? I've never played it and holds little interest for me. Although I do know the addictiveness of games like Oblivion, fallout and recently Dragon Age... It's a bugger when you get addicted, I know all about that. You'll start to grow out of them a bit though which makes things easier... I suppose it'll take a while though, my love began with the atari 2600 Smile

THAT episode of southpark... Do the characters actually talk like that in game?

and, What do you mean you cut a page?

It is a very interesting game. I've played Oblivion and Fallout and they too are interesting. But in regard to the Southpark episode, I think Blizzard the Southpark guys kind of teamed up to do something with characters and stuff.

Well, see, I went to Virginia this May for my girlfriend's prom. Now there were little lies thrown out to get myself there. However, let's just say that I didn't want my parents to know that I went abroad, simple, right? Considering that I'm Filipino and for some weird reason they still stamp my passport, ah, well, I cut out that page where they stamped it Confused . Consequently, I'm here for a good amount, says my parents.

I've got some information from the Filipino Embassy in Washington D.C, U.S Consulate here, and the U.S Boarder Patrol in the airport here in order for me to get to the U.S in time for college. The Filipino Embassy told my parents that if I were to renew my passport in the U.S (with them) they could take away my U.S visa and my liberty to enter the U.S again. HOWEVER! I called them and they said they can't do that. To further back that up I called the U.S Consulate and they informed that no foreign embassy can take away my U.S - this is good - therefore I can go there now and renew it. Now for the Boarder Patrol they said that they can let me through as long as my visa and information page is good. So I think I'm in a good spot. But hey I'm not in a good spot overall.

Bit of a ruff here. I see games as a escape from reality so I don't have to think about all this things. Eh.

We all need a bit of an escape from time to time... I suppose cutting pages is a no-no then? I've never considered doing it before but I can see how the US government could take offense. We're having visa troubles ourselves at the moment... We're ozzies and we have to leave America again. My last news post was 3 months ago but it's still relevant!

I wanted to go brave Mexico for a while but the fam says no, so it's another boat-ride and HOPE that we can get a visa when we come back, nothing is guaranteed these days but maybe common sense will prevail.

As for games, whenever I play them, I'm very critical. Look at my news posts on fallout 3 and oblivion and you'll see that. I'm sure you also look at a game and think to yourself "why did they do it this way? when there are far more interesting alternatives".

Right now I'm just passing the time with fanmade MTG games and CS 1.6 which is about 10 years old now Smile I should be studying politics but I think I'm already fairly knowledgeable about it so I'm not stressing too much.

How are you getting on?
M.

That's great to hear Michael. I guess we're in the same boat? Yes, pun intended. If it were possible what do you plan on doing in Mexico? I mean I'm not so much the Latin American guy as much as the other but I would like to see Mexico and all of it's Native American and Spanish influence. I would like to see how the culture has intensely diversified, quite interesting, I say.

Forget family! I'm sure you can go by yourself considering that you're right of age. Bring some buddy of yours. And besides you're Australian, yes? I'm assuming from the news and facts I heard about Australia, or should I say: Oceania (tehe), doesn't have beef with anyone just like Canada. So getting a visa from anywhere would be set-sail.

I wanted to become a game designer back in the good old days. Come think about it, I have thought about how unique games are made. But the possibility of how people may ask why the game is made as it is, is inevitable. I'm sure that it is a good manifestation of the designer's (or designers') style of making games. With that, people will criticize; for one would be the new Splinter Cell which isn't really Splinter Cell but just shooting and stuff - no more sneaking, eh.

Hey! I play CS 1.6 on Steam! Do you play on a steam server too? We should play sometime regardless of Steam because there's always non-Steam servers flying about. Yeah, I played CS ever since...well I can't remember but I was really young. It was very big in Asia and it still is.

So far I'm in a somewhat good position. I just have to persuade my dad to still let me go to college in States. Let's hope for the best. Yay me.

My Parents' fear of Mexico is warranted I dare say. I have been there twice before, once in Juarez and once in Tijuana. Both times were something of an eye-opener. The border areas themselves are nothing but people looking to make some coin off the gringos in whatever way they can. It's a strange place but I assume it's a lot less artificial and potentially dangerous the further you get away from the border and paradoxically, other tourists. The culture seems to be one of lawlessness and barbarity since the dawn of time, they can keep it if it's so ingrained amongst the Aztec descendants .

My interest in the trip this time was simply a means to circumvent US law, but I have had a desire to go further South into central South America. Although the violence is probably more severe, it is not aimed at tourists since there aren't any... Except perhaps the single eccentric Aussie looking to carve out his own objectivist paradise. Until I have the where-with-all and the ability to manage my own affairs, I go where the family goes... They help me and vice versa, it's an excellent situation that has proven most symbiotic and I'm more than a little bit apprehensive about discarding a good thing for an idealist scenario that mightn't even exist somewhere on the far-flung edges of the globe.

You are not your khakis, you are not your personal loan. You don't need to deprive yourself to know you can live with deprivation. Especially when the experiment is potentially destructive on the sample.

Australia is fairly well liked, but we get no special favours. There is no place that we can go and Americans can't to my knowledge. What I like about South America though is that the immigration there is fairly week and even foreigners can open business there without penalty. What's with the "Tee Hee" I quite like the term Oceania. It's Australasia I can't stand... I feel like Ive been lumped into a NWO trading bloc... Billions of them, 30 mil of us... Who gets political power eh? It's frightening.

I played the first Splinter cell, wasn't a big fan but it kept me going. If they've taken sneaking out of the following ones then that's a shame. I thought it was the only redeeming feature. Although no one has done sneaking better than the thief series. I loved those ones, No.2 was just amazing for the time... Just to prove my supremacy, I went through both 2 and 3 without being spotted or killing an enemy... It's like I was never there. Whoosh!

I have a non steam pirate copy of CS, although It is one of the few games I actually bought at the time. I play on nonsteam servers exclusively. I don't have a favourite, but I'm on fairly often. This might surprise you, but my favourite weapon is the UMP, hence my most frequently used name "Buffy the Umpire Slayer" Just ask for Buffy Smile

As for you going to school in America... Why bother, stay where you are and go to college there. I know you have a girl elsewhere, but honestly speaking, I don't think long distance relationships work. Right now a 'Dear John' could be the best think that could happen to you.

Well I'm sure you're going back there soon despite of the fear of your parents and the dangers that the in-land may hold. It's the same as the Philippines. The only safe place is the city because once you get in the squatter areas the likelihood of you getting hurt, robbed, and kidnapped is highly probable. Not only that but when travel down to the nether regions of the southern islands you have the militia. But regardless I'm sure that it's a great place for a vacation.

US-law in Latin America? But I guess that isn't far-fetched as US History class in Bermuda, which i took, by the way. As for my family, however, it's a bit hectic. Confused

<if you don't mind I'm putting your third paragraph as my sig. It's about time I shank something from you MUAHAHA>

Like I said, man, we should play sometime. Dude, you should get steam CS 1.6 is only $10 and that's like 11 Aussie dollar - I'm sure you can spend that. UMP? I'm more in the "press F1 and get the AK and the M4" and with the usual purchase of grenades and all. I call my self: "Jenny". My doppelganger is evidently a girl; hence, testosterone boys always ask to be my friend. I get a kick out of it but in general it's really screwed up.

I'm longing for a "Dear John" moment right now (I have never seen that movie). Well you see the the college here is basically a vocational college. It doesn't offer anything but an Associate Degree and some other low level certifications. See, Bermuda isn't that big. It's surprising that Bermuda even has over 10+ schools. And besides a long distance relationship isn't that bad really. It just takes a lot of work and a lot of envy and jealousy with it. Not really what I advocate but since I've done so much for my girlfriend, why stop now? It'll work out. I'm being optimistic as you can see. heha.

In addition, is it just me or are you the manifestation of my childhood. For one because you play(ed) the same games I do, notably Thief.

Thief is a classic, no doubt of that, it's just very dated now. I just wish they could put modern techniques into the classic styling of old games... They had a certain spirit that the the new games today can't match... They definitely can't top the good ol' light gem.

I've recently become addicted to Fire Emblem on the Gamecube, it's a turn-based strategy game and when one of your characters die, they're dead, hit the reset button.

And I recently came into the possession of Reservoir Dogs the game and beat it within 4 hours. It was free so it was worth it but it does little to enhance upon the movie, which was it's intended purpose.

Just Cause is another one I've picked up, it's an interesting take on the open-ended adventure game. It's less based on reality and more on stunts and just making the game fun. Jump from car to car with ease, riding a motorbike and then deploying your parachute. It's interesting.
